Inspiring you to be more grateful each day

One of the practices I do at the end of each year is to review the year that was thru the lenses of Gratitude & Growth (Lessons).

For this particular blog, I’d like to share my 2021 Year In Review using the lens of Gratitude.

I did the same for 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2014, and 2012.

Let’s divide this into two parts: Personal and Professional.

Blessing #1: I spent 4 months with my family in the province.

This was the year I spent the most time with my family since college. It feels so good to be with my family and spend time with them. My family is healthy physically, emotionally, mentally.

In 2021, we’ve had a lot of family heart-to-heart talks as well. We were able to go through difficult, uncomfortable conversations and I’m glad we did. Today, we’re even more open, caring, and loving to each other.

Blessing #2: Consecration to St. Joseph. (Feb 15 – Mar 19, 2021)

My friend, Maan, gifted me the “Consecration to St. Joseph” and sent it to me to the province. I got to know St. Joseph more and I feel I became closer to him.

Blessing #3: I fully paid my townhouse in Muntinlupa.

When I was an employee, I took out a loan so I can buy a 3-bedroom townhouse in Muntinlupa. Later on, I transferred to Mandaluyong then Pasig because Muntinlupa was a bit far. So I decided to sell the townhouse, but for me to sell it, I had to pay off the home loan first. Thank God for His provision.

Blessing #4: Some progress in the area of my love life. *wink

I met a lot of good, Catholic, single men and I got to know some of them. I went on a couple of one-on-one and group dates as well. I still haven’t met The One but I am grateful I am now making time for this top area in my life. When I say “I am open to meeting good, single men,” my calendar agrees as well. Hehe. I learned (and continue to learn) a lot about myself and about men in the process of going on dates.

Blessing #5: Travels to Boracay (June and Sep/Oct) and Tagaytay (June)

Pre-pandemic, I used to travel a lot! I would travel once or twice a month. In the midst of the pandemic, I rarely left home. Maybe I only went out of the house once a month or once every 3 months!

It was a huge milestone for me to drive to Tagaytay for my much-needed “Me” time with nature.

In June, I traveled to Boracay with my friends Maan and Marj. We were together for 6 days and I extended my stay for additional 4 days.

In September, I went back to Boracay. I initially wanted to stay there for 7 days, then extended it to 10 days, then extended it again. Haha! I ended up staying in Boracay for 18 days. Pure bliss!

Here are some of the cool adventures I did in Boracay.

Blessing #6: Music Videos

While in Boracay, the idea of creating music videos came to mind and I acted on that idea right away.

Here’s a vlog I created to document the journey.

In 2021, we released 14 music videos — 12 solo music video covers from my Boracay trips and 2 music videos collaborations with my friends Divine and Mae, together with Chris Tiu (on piano).

Here were the titles:

  1. True Colors
  2. I See the Light
  3. Umagang Kay Ganda
  4. Every Morning (Original Song written by Sha Nacino)
  5. Permission to Dance
  6. You are Loved
  7. A Million Dreams
  8. I Like You So Much You’ll Know It
  9. Try Everything
  10. Star ng Pasko
  11. Give Love on Christmas Day (with Divine, Mae, and Chris Tiu)
  12. Breathless (with Divine and Mae)
  13. There’s a Kind of Hush
  14. Bridge of Light

Blessing #7: I wrote and released a song called “Every Morning”

On September 2, I announced my dream to write a song and release it on my birthday (October 19). I’ve never written a song before and I didn’t know what it takes to write a song. All I had was the desire to write one a firm belief that it will happen.

True enough, we released the song “Every Morning” on my YouTube channel on my birthday (Oct 19). You can watch it here:

Blessing #8: I joined Battle of the Champions and I won! 🙂

I vlogged about it here:

Blessing #9: We built our dream farmhouse.

This was purely God’s provision. We built a beautiful Filipino-Scandinavian house in the middle of a farm surrounded by lush trees. My parents bought the land about 18 years ago and they planted it with mango trees. My Papa, brother, and I personally designed the house. Then we hired a contractor to build it and an interior designer to dress up the house.

Blessing #10: I did two 42K Virtual Marathons.

I super enjoyed this experience. I remember biking to the park in our town to do 5k every morning. Then all throughout the day, I would walk around the house to complete 42k in 5 days!

  1. My YouTube channel grew from 700+ subscribers in Jan 2021 to 41,900 subscribers by Dec 31, 2021. That’s a 60X increase or 6,000% increase!

2. I wrote and launched a book in 7 days! This book became a finalist at the 15ht Cardinal Sin Book Awards.

On April 23, 2021, I woke up and I felt I heard God say, “Sha, I want you to write a book and publish it by the end of April.”

I only had 7 days to write, publish, and launch the book! When God calls you, He equips you.

We did it! The bonus? My book was a finalist for the 15th Cardinal Sin Catholic Book Awards. Everything is grace.

9. Christmas Concert-for-a Cause

I love doing this Gratitude exercise because it makes me realize how faithful and good God is. Everything is grace. I also love looking back at the previous years and ask, “What was the highlight of 2020? or 2019? or 2014?” And I can just go to my blog and read what I wrote in my Year In Review.

Here’s how I do it in case you want to adopt it.

  1. Everyday, I write in my Mission Happiness Journal. It’s a 90-day journal that allows me to write 5 things I’m grateful for each day. (It only takes less than 5 minutes to journal each day).

2. At the end of each month, I take out my special notebook and write down my milestones/blessings for that month. The Mission Happiness Journal is my guide. I just look at what I’ve written on a daily basis and pick my top 10 for the month.3. At the end of the year, I do my Year In Review and blog about my blessings for that year. Why blog? It’s because I want to include relevant photos and videos. Years from now, I can always go back to my blog and see how I’ve grown and how much God has been faithful thru the years. It’s a beautiful practice.

What I’ll Do Differently in 2022

When I traveled to Boracay in September, I forgot to bring my precious notebook for my Monthly Review. Thus, I wasn’t able to do my Sep review by the end of September. When I went home to our province for a month-long vacation in December, I forgot to bring home my precious notebook! So I wasn’t able to do my Year-end review on Dec 31.

What I’ll do differently in 2022 is to use my Notes app instead of a physical notebook for my Monthly Review so I can access my Monthly Reviews on my iPhone, iPad or laptop anywhere I go. Thus, I can do my Month-end reviews and Year-End Review on time! :)

I hope this post inspired you! What is your favorite annual exercise or habit? Care to share?

I wish you love, joy, and peace today and everyday! :)
