Inspiring you to be more grateful each day

Happy Tuesday! πŸ™‚

How was your weekend?
Mine was filled with pruning and purification.

Let me share two stories where I was not chosen.
In a way, these were forms of rejection.

I’m baring my heart with the hope that this will inspire you to be gentler with yourself and be a little more vulnerable, especially with the people close to you.
There’s nothing more beautiful than a relationship that is authentic and unmasked.

Story 1 : I lost!

I was a finalist for a particular prestigious award and I really wanted to win the award.

Unfortunately, I lost.
I remember staring sadly at my laptop monitor and sighed,

“Awww… I feel sad, I lost.” πŸ™

I let the sad feelings linger.

Surprisingly, I didn’t feel like crying.
The sadness also vanished after two minutes or so! Hehe!

I then texted and congratulated the winner — my friend — and broke the good news to her that she won!

As I was eating my favorite chocolate ice cream that Friday afternoon, I was smiling from ear to ear.

“Wow! I feel deeply, genuinely happy!”

That was a milestone because before, it would take me days to recover from a loss. Back then, I’d feel so ashamed for losing. But that afternoon, I felt like a winner. Thank God for teaching me how to love myself. I shared about it in my latest book “Love Yourself Today.”

I also gained a few insights on losing and winning.

There is no shame in losing as long as you did your best.

There is honor in accepting defeat.

There is peace in choosing to love yourself no matter what!

There is freedom in knowing how to celebrate the victory of others.
There is joy in knowing that your happiness is not dependent on outside circumstances.

For me, that is where true power is!

Story 2: I was not invited to the “party!”

Okay, it was not really a party but it’s very much like a party to me.

It is an annual event, one of the biggest Catholic learning events.
I’ve dreamed to speak in that annual event for the past 7 years now!

But I’ve never been invited yet to speak there. Not even once! Huhu!

I felt like all my friends in the community were invited except me.
As I am typing this, I can easily count at least 20 of my friends who were part of the party!

Each year, I would wait for an email invitation. None came.

I thought maybe it got lost somewhere in the spam folder? None!

I felt unseen. I felt forgotten.

On Day 1 of this year’s party, I prayed and said, “God, you know what? I just really want to serve as a speaker in this event.”

I felt I heard God say, “Sha, do you really want to serve or do you just want to speak?”

I searched my heart. I wasn’t sure what’s in there.
I felt God was purifying my heart and my intentions.
Then I heard Him further say, “Sha, if you really want to serve, serve!”

So I began by buying a ticket as an attendee.

Then I prayed for the success of the 3-day event!

I cheered for my friends who were part of the event either as speakers, hosts, or singers.

I attended their sessions and I let them know what I appreciated about them.

I then actively helped promote the event via social media (i.e. IG stories).

(As an event organizer myself, I know how valuable sharing events via social media can be).

Then I asked one of my friends who was a speaker if she needed any help.

The night before her talk, we hopped on a Zoom call so she can sound off her talk with me.
I listened to her talk and I gave some comments.
I also attended her meeting with the tech team and gave some insights.

Then I attended her talk and interceded for her in prayers.

When there was a technical glitch during her presentation, I engaged the attendees in the comments.

These were the roles I would usually delegate to my team during our events so I can focus on my talk and on the big picture.

(I wanted to be a speaker! I ended up serving one of the speakers! Hehe)

That night, I felt I was purified and humbled.

I also felt deep joy and overwhelming peace!

It was clear what’s in my heart — LOVE!

I really just wanted to serve in whatever capacity God wanted me to serve.

My heart is in the right place and my intentions were pure!

I felt God was smiling at me and was telling me, “I delight in you, Sha, my child!”

Did you want to receive something but you didn’t get it?

Did you want to win a contest, a promotion, or a reward but you lost?
Did you feel unseen, forgotten?

Were you not invited to the “party” as well?

If you answered yes to any of the above, consider that experience as a GIFT!

Sometimes, the best lessons are learned in failures and rejections.

At the end of the day, it’s not about what we achieved that matters.
It’s about who we are becoming.

Are we becoming more loving, more vulnerable, more kind?

Are our hearts being purified by our pains, problems, and failures?

It’s not about pleasing other people but pleasing God.

It’s not about getting accepted by other people but more so about accepting ourselves.

These are such important lessons.

We don’t want to be in a situation wherein we will have all the applause, money, power, achievements…

Yet, we’d feel empty because we failed to realize what really matters in life!

Though I really wanted to win the award, I thank God I lost.

Because that experience taught me where my real happiness is.

I really wanted to serve as a speaker in that annual event.

Thank God He called me to serve in the background, devoid of the limelight.
Because that experience revealed what’s in my heart — LOVE!

Hallelujah!!!
As we know, LOVE is the most powerful force in the world. Love is the essence of life!

When you have love in your heart, you can move mountains! Wow! Wow! Wow!

When God finally calls me to speak in that event, praise God!
If He says, “Sha, I have better, bigger plans for you!” Praise God!

I’ll go where He leads me.

Everything is a GIFT!

I am happy God used those “rejection” and humbling circumstances to grow me up.

I am happy my happiness is no longer rooted in the myth that “I will only be happy if…”

Rather, everyday I can choose to say, “I can be happy now because God loves me and His plans for me are good.”

This journey will be imperfect. I may falter along the way, that’s okay.

I hope my Tuesday letter to you blessed you.

Starting today, I am officially naming our Tuesday letters #TuesDatewithSha. Hahaha! This is our TuesDate! πŸ™‚
